- Lobster Fest
The La Plata Rotary Club held its 34th annual Lobster Festival Sept. 27 at the Charles County Fairgrounds. The lobster festival is the only fundraiser that La Plata Rotarians host each year. Charles County Commissioner Samuel N. Graves Jr. (D), center, hands out lobsters during this year's event.

At the St. Charles Children's Learning Center at the College of Southern Maryland when celebrity reader and Charles County Commissioner Samuel N. Graves Jr. shared some favorite books with its preschoolers.
- Commissioners Celebrate Adopt-A-Spot
Charles County Commissioner Samuel N. Graves Jr. gathered recently at J.P. Ryon Elementary School in Waldorf to celebrate the grand opening of the youth council "Adopt-A-Spot" program, a Charles County commissioners' youth initiative. The Adopt-A-Spot program, developed by Lifestyles of Maryland's Youth Council members, allows youth and youth-serving organizations an opportunity to work together to promote safe and clean recreational facilities in Charles County.
- Byway Garden Highlights History
Commissioner Samuel N. Graves Jr. attended the dedication of the Blue Star Memorial Byway garden and marker that the La Plata Community Garden Club completed to complement the marker erected at St. Paul's Episcopal Church on Piney Church Road in Waldorf.
